Found
throughout the home is a collection of stunning artwork produced
by many notable local artists. The two-storied Taos
Territorial House was immaculately restored in 1998 and boasts
oversized rooms with inlayed wood floors and high ceilings with
gorgeous exposed vigas
Downstairs
the home features one bedroom with a handicap accessible private
bathroom, a grand entertainment room
with all leather furniture, a giant plasma television, and sleeper
sofa for kids or spill-over guests. A beautiful
formal den with a functioning kiva fireplace is a great place
to gather for conversation. A southwestern style, gourmet
kitchen offers all the modern conveniences hidden inside Old
World armoires and has a large antique wooden kitchen table.
A
covered rear veranda downstairs
offers room to cook outdoors on a private gas grill and provides
access to a secluded lower courtyard with a sophisticated Sundance
hot tub, complete with special
hydrotherapy jets, stereo sound, and waterfall.
A
much larger covered veranda runs
the full length of the building offering an unobstructed view
of Taos Mountain. Eight wooden rocking chairs provide the perfect
opportunity to greet strolling guest frequenting the neighborhood’s
fine restaurants and art galleries. Our guests find the central
location of the property to be one of its greatest assets.
Behind
the doors of an antique armoire is a hidden stairwell to the second
floor. There, you’ll discover a wonderful guest
bedroom with a private bath and the magnificent master
bedroom with a private Jacuzzi
bathtub. Both bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed
beams, heavy wood framed king sized beds, and large flat panel
televisions. Front and rear balconies provide excellent viewing
of the clear Taos skies.
A
special feature of Taos Territorial is the Celestron 11-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain
telescope with GoTo technology. No need to guess what you’re
looking at while you star gaze as this telescope has a built GPS
system and computerized navigation to take you on a personal tour
of the best celestial objects offered that evening.
History
For
the price of one cow and five pesos, Santiago Martinez acquired
the one-half acre property in 1864 located less than a block from
the Historic Taos Plaza. Actual construction on the property dates
to the early 1870’s when the New Mexico Vernacular style
building known as the Taos Territorial was constructed in the
style introduced by the U.S. Army to this frontier region.
